12 Anime That Make You Root For The Villain
6. Saga Of Tanya The Evil - Tanya
The title of this anime might give you some hints as to what the lead character is like. Yes, Tanya is, shockingly, a reprehensible little girl who is both the protagonist of this story and a full-on villain simultaneously. But, seeing as the series follows her, you can't really root for anyone else.
Saga of Tanya the Evil takes place in an alternate, WW2-style world with magic guns and flying soldiers. You follow Tanya, a vile little girl who used to be a man living in modern-day Japan, only to be reincarnated into this world by a figure known as Being X. It's a show where you watch to punch pretty much every character in the face.
The series constantly lets you know you're following the villain by developing enemies for Tanya, who seem like the heroes of their own stories. For example, one narrative follows a girl (who is literally called Mary Sue - genius), a sweet young woman who goes on a quest for vengeance against the titular character for killing her father. In any other series, you'd follow her, but with Tanya, you're stuck with the bad guy.
While she is an awful little thing, you can't help but fall for her devilishly evil nature.
