3. Cop Rock

If there's one thing America just doesn't need, it's a musical police drama, and thanks to Cop Rock, we now know that for certain. The show was a bizarre attempt to take a generic procedural and sprinkle it with musical numbers, which began airing on ABC in 1990, and featured a relatively illustrious production team, including the always reliable Randy Newman. The talent involved and the high expectations for Cop Rock are the main reason why this show is regarded as such an overwhelming failure: high points include a jury proclaiming their guilty verdict via gospel music, and a line-up of Hispanic suspects singing about their "coppertone skin". And when we say high point, we mean horrifying obscenity to God and man that should never be spoken of again. Cop Rock didn't take long to be put out of its misery, though. ABC quickly pulled the plug on the show after only eleven episodes, cementing its reputation as one of the most bizarre television experiments ever committed to tape. Regardless, the show was broadcast years later on VH1, A&E Network, and Trio, presumably as an ironic "so bad it's good" entertainment.
