Merle is one former character who people seem to overlook. He was a true anti-hero in the story, swinging from racist, rampant thug, to selfless protector by the end of his time. He went out in a blaze of glory, typical Merle style. Michael Rooker played the man who we all hated from the start, yet he remarkably won over huge swathes of the audience. He was proof that people in The Walking Dead don't have to be good people to be great characters. Merle was one of them, and his relationship with brother Daryl was fascinating to watch.
