Exposition, exposition, and just for good measure, even more exposition. That was what filled a lot of this episode. To introduce such a new, radical concept to MCU audiences for the first time, and to build it as the greatest power in the universe, there was a need for a great amount of talking.

Fortunately, this is something that Tom Hiddleston, and by extension Loki, excel at. The character loves to hear himself talk, and audiences could listen to it all day. Throw in Owen Wilson and the duo’s undeniable chemistry, the talking was exceptional.

This came in the form of dissecting Loki as a character, his nature of losing, and his illusion to inspire fear in others out of a fear of weakness himself. He went through the same development as between The Avengers and Infinity War in just 50 minutes.

Loki changed even more throughout this series, meaning that episode one was really the only exposure to the God of Mischief at the height of his villainy. Seeing this version of the character was a highlight of the entire series, and something fans had been missing for almost a decade.
