Doctor Who is known for a great many things. Being one of the longest-running TV shows of all time, generating generation after generation of nerds who all have a deep love of fez's and long trench coats, and killing more people/aliens/planets/galaxies than your average Sci-Fi programme.

In the season finale of the rebooted Doctor Who, the Ninth Doctor and his companion Rose Tyler stumble upon a truly dystopian world that they themselves actually caused in an earlier episode of the show.

To make matters worse the Daleks, the ancient enemy of The Doctor, return to conquer what's left of humanity. The merciless armies of the Daleks slaughter several side characters and a good portion of the humans on Earth. The Daleks even kill Captain Jack Harkness (for the first time).

At the end of the episode, both Rose and The Doctor try to sacrifice themselves for each other by absorbing the power of the TARDIS. The Doctor is the one who actually dies at the end of the episode, though, giving new fans their first regeneration and leaving a rather large pile of death behind.
