Stargate Atlantis is the popular spinoff show of the super-popular Sci-Fi adventure series Stargate-SG1. The show created a cast of mostly new characters to the franchise and threw them into a whole new galaxy filled with exciting new discoveries and horrifying new threats to humanity.

But, according to the episode titled "Before I Sleep," the crew of the Ancient city of Atlantis had a much shorter trip than we first saw. In that episode, the crew of the Atlantis discovered a woman whom they first assumed to be the last surviving Ancient, the people who built Atlantis, and most of the advanced technologies in Stargate's shows.

Instead, it turns out the sleeping woman is an alternate timeline version of Atlantis' leader Dr. Elizabeth Weir. This alternate version of Dr. Weir spends the whole episode recounting what actually happened when the Atlantis team arrived in the Ancient city.

It turns out the city wasn't actually powered up like fans saw in the series' first episode. Instead, the city was a complete death trap crumbling down and flooding on every level. Over the course of the episode, we see the entire crew of the Atlantis die in a hauntingly dark 'what if?' episode.
