12 Brilliant Ways TV Characters Were Brought Back From The Dead

1. The Doctor (Every Regeneration) €“ Doctor Who

The most ingenious resurrection of them all was the creative decision by script editor Gerry Davis and producer Innes Lloyd in 1966 that allowed the Doctor to keep on living even after the lead actor moved on. It's a theme that allowed the show to celebrate fifty years last year, and, gods willing, will allow it to continue on to a hundred. In any other show, replacing the lead character would most likely be a death sentence, but in Doctor Who it allows the show to remain fresh and reinvent itself every few years. It's heart-breaking watching your favourite Doctor go, but without John Pertwee leaving, we wouldn't have had the best Doctor of them all in Tom Baker and without David Tennant, there would have been no Matt Smith. It€™s reason enough to be excited for what Peter Capaldi will bring to the role. As to which Doctor had the greatest regeneration, fear not, because we handily compiled this list last year, prior to Matt Smith's departure. (For the record, the Eleventh Doctor's regeneration is one if the best). So do you agree with these choices? Do you find them clever or contrived? Do you think television should use the whole €˜character resurrected from the dead€™ method of storytelling or steer clear of it altogether? A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! (http://www.starburstmagazine.com/reviews/eventsupcoming-genre-events/6960-event-review-centurion) I also wrote an episode for online comedy series Supermarket Matters in 2012. I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
