Genetically manipulating an unborn child has become a topic of debate in recent years. Doing so in order to protect them from pain or suffering is tempting, but in Lineage, B'Elanna takes that desire to a different level.

After discovering she is pregnant, B'Elanna begins reliving unpleasant memories of her childhood. It is revealed she was bullied as a child for being half-Klingon and naturally, she does not want her unborn child to suffer as she did. So, she decides to genetically manipulate her unborn child to prevent her from showing her Klingon heritage.

She just wants to ensure her child doesn't get bullied for how she looks, but it's what B'Elanna does next that makes this so dark. She reprograms the Doctor to perform the procedure which he had been resistant to up until that point. She abuses her power as an engineer and manipulates the Doctor to perform a surgery he does not want to do.

The lengths B'Elanna goes to in order to fulfil her desire is terrifying, as it shows that she is willing to do anything to get what she wants.

A recently created Star Trek fan with a special affinity for the adventures of Voyager and its crew. I enjoy the occasional horror movie and love anything 80s to the point where I've been told I was an 80s child reborn. I'm a true blue Aussie and proud of it.
