12 Darkest Star Trek: Voyager Moments Ever

4. Death By Dissolving - Course: Oblivion

Voyager Face Stealer
CBS

In Course: Oblivion the crew begins to dissolve after discovering they are a copy of Voyager made from the gooey substance found on the planet in the episode Demon. The painful nature of their deaths is apparent, as each time a crewmember comes closer to dissolving, a ripple is observed, causing expressions of pure agony on their faces. One-by-one the crew dissolves as the copy Voyager desperately tries to find the real Voyager in time to be saved.

Along the way, several main characters die, including Captain Janeway. The image of her dead in her captain's chair with Neelix kneeling in front of her is one of the most heart-breaking scenes in Voyager history. Remember the second rule of a captain? Always go down with the ship. She does.

What makes this episode darker is the copy Voyager almost makes it to the real Voyager before it dissolves completely. It seems the copy Voyager will find their real counterparts in time, but episode's closing gutpunch arrives as they don't quite make it. Just as the real Voyager becomes aware of them, they disappear forever.

A recently created Star Trek fan with a special affinity for the adventures of Voyager and its crew. I enjoy the occasional horror movie and love anything 80s to the point where I've been told I was an 80s child reborn. I'm a true blue Aussie and proud of it.
