12 Doctor Who Characters You Miss More Every Day

4. Rory Williams

Also known as Rory the Roman, the man who once stood outside a box after vowing to protect Amy Pond for 2,000 years. Seriously. Because if there's one thing you can say about Rory Williams, it's that he was ferociously faithful until the bitter, bitter end. He made his Whoniversal debut, as a bumbling but loveable fool, in Series 5's The Eleventh Hour before being transformed into a hero before our very eyes - albeit one who was constantly dying - when he stepped about the TARDIS to join his beloved and her childhood imaginary friend for adventures anew. It was the start of an epic journey which defied the realms of time and space (and sometimes logic) but all good things have to come to an end and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when he heroically sacrificed himself in Series 7 before being zapped back in time by a rogue Weeping Angel. It was a relief, actually, to know that he'd finally been granted the happily ever after he deserved. He'd been through the mill - and then some - with his reckless girlfriend turned reckless fiancée turned reckless (eventful) wife keeping him on his toes and, while he was initially introduced as a third wheel to the Doctor and Amy's blossoming relationship, he firmly established himself as a fully fledged Earth defender in his own right. Good on you, mate.
