12 Doctor Who Characters You Miss More Every Day

8. Captain Jack Harkness

Jack Harkness, also known as the man who got given his own show and it still wasn't enough, was first introduced back in 2005 but it looked like his time had come (noooo!) during the climactic Series 1 finale when he was shot dead by a Dalek. Things escalated, though, and there was stuff and shenanigans (Rose Tyler absorbed the energies of the time vortex and used her new found powers to make him immortal, to cut a long story short!), which meant that this ever charismatic captain lived to fight another day - and then some - as he embarked on a seemingly lifelong mission to track down the Doctor on present day Earth. Heralding from the 51st century (where apparently anything goes...), this omnisexual Earth defender certainly knows how to get tongues wagging - *ahem* - and luckily for him, and us, he had the trials and tribulations of Torchwood to help him pass the time between his intermediate Doctor Who comebacks. The spin off now has 4 successful series to its critically acclaimed name (OK, make that 3 successful series and 1 'meh' one...) which is proof enough that, as far as Captain Jack is concerned, the world just cannot get enough.
