12 Doctor Who Characters You Miss More Every Day

6. Amy Pond

Amy Pond left such a lasting legacy on the Doctor Who mythology that her departure was always going to leave a gaping hole when the time came for her to bid farewell to her beloved raggedy man once and for all. To say that her tenure on the TARDIS was turbulent, though, would be the understatement of the century. After first meeting the Eleventh Doctor as a young child in the sleepy village of Leadworth, Amy waited over a decade for him to come back and was ultimately left psychologically damaged and emotionally unstable by his broken promise. She grew up to become a kissogram before letting her long suffering beau, the ever faithful Rory Williams, make an honest woman of her (well, eventually... it only took them 2,000 years!) and if you thought Series 5 was confusing, Steven Moffat really went to town in 2011 when the Ponds' conceived a child aboard the TARDIS, otherwise known as River Song, who was kidnapped shortly after birth and raised into a psychopathic killing machine to murder the Doctor. No, seriously. Amy Pond did her fair share of waiting and she also did her fair share of everything else, too, making her one of the most popular and narratively diverse Doctor Who companions to date. She's currently NuWho's longest serving sidekick, too, though she's about to be beaten to the prestigious post by the TARDIS' current co-resident, Clara Oswald, so make the most of it while you can, Amy!
