3. April
Appearing initially to be the perfect girl, April was actually a creepy robot created by Warren Mears to be his girlfriend and fulfil his sexual needs. She was modelled on a real girl and was inadvertently the inspiration for the Buffybot. Warren programmed April to love and obey him, but he ultimately became bored with her predictability and realised that he didn't love her back. He left her in his dorm room, hoping her batteries would eventually run out, but they didn't and she went looking for him. She roamed Sunnydale, monotonously asking people where Warren was and if they'd seen Warren, but he had already met Katrina Silber, with whom he started a relationship. When Spike flirted with April and she reacted by throwing him through a window, it was obvious that she wasn't human and she came in to conflict with Buffy Summers - who assumed she must be a demon of some sort. April overpowered Buffy, kidnapped Warren's girlfriend Katrina and later confronted Warren and Buffy at the park. To save his own skin, Warren told April that he loved Buffy, causing April to attack her in a jealous rage. The fight took its toll on April and she began to shut down. Buffy decided to stay with her as she died and comforted her over Warren's departure. April was accepting of it, however, and remarked to Buffy that "It's always darkest just before the dawn" (a very seminal line in the show's history), but she shut down before she could finish.
