12 Funniest Moments Of The Last Man On Earth So Far

12. More Lonely Than Tom Hanks In Castaway

Early in the first episode, Alive In Tucson, Phil Miller (Will Forte) rigs up a generator to a television for some lonely entertainment. He chooses to watch Castaway and scoffs at Tom Hanks for resorting to befriending a volleyball that he's named Wilson. Phil shouts by himself that he's not buying into the premise and claims that he will never talk to a ball. "Balls aren't people, dude. Balls are for fun," Phil mockingly says. He might be the last man on earth but he has not sunk to that level of loneliness yet. Skip forward to just beyond the next commercial break and Phil is stopping by an empty bar for a drink of whisky. Well, sort of empty. A few dozen balls representing virtually every variety of sport are there with faces drawn on them. Phil asks the room full of faces if they would like to share his drink with them. One of the balls, Gary, even accompanies him to a storefront window to dare Phil to talk to an attractive mannequin. Apparently actor Will Forte personally drew every face on every ball. He also came up with every name on his own as well. He truly loves his art.
