Last Seen: In the Tower Of Joy flashback when he saved Ned's life as a younger man. He was mentioned in passing by his daughter when she eventually got sick of Bran Stark's weirdness and went home, but so far he's remained a conspicuous absentee.

There's surely no way Reed would allow the Stark children to go to all-out war with Cersei (and the Golden Army) without turning up to lend a hand, given his relationship with Ned. And the fact that he was there to witness the truth of Jon Snow's parentage should also count for something if we're looking for reasons he should be involved in SOME way.

Could He Return?

He SHOULD, which should count for something. The show has been very keen to give fans all of the expected moments of fan service and one of the only ones left is seeing Howland Reed dust off his reputation as a fearsome warrior and actually show what he can do. He needs to swing his sword in the service of the Starks once more.
