12 Game Of Thrones Spoilers You'll Know Before The Books

12. The Great War For The North

So far the presence of the White Walkers has been referenced only vaguely and ominously: they appear to add dramatic flashes, rather than showing anything like their real strength. And the fact that Sam Tarly has already found their weakness suggests the build is on for them to appear in force. In the books, Stannis' acknowledgement of the Others and their God-like leader is already known - he called them "the only enemy that matters" - which suggests that he was going to come face to face with them. Now that he's "dead" and the forces at the Wall are decimated, it's likely the great cold march south will see few barriers until it meets someone at Winterfell. The Theory The Others will over-run the Wall and send Jon Snow's killers to their graves: being a dick to the main characters is always a bad idea in Martin's books, so having them massacred in the most despicable way possible sort of fits.
