5. Mercy Point
Designed to cram together the varying appeals of then-recent sleeper hit Star Trek: The Next Generation and ratings juggernaut St Elsewhere, Mercy Point's "It's a hospital drama... set in SPACE!" should have been too ambitious a high concept to succeed.
But this long-forgotten nineties show actually pulled off the pitch with aplomb, introducing us to a cast of characters as likeable as any season of House or E.R ever offered, and an interesting setting in the form of its 23rd century spaceship hospital hybrid.
To be fair, it's no wonder this big budget effort was so soon forgotten considering it only made it to seven episodes prior to the nervous network deciding to pull the plug on production. But for those who don't mind a little cheesiness in sick bay, this one is worth a follow up visit.
