12 Hilariously Bad Attempts To Reboot Classic TV Shows

7. Spaced

In the annals of great British comedy, millennial cultural comedy Spaced is an undoubted contemporary classic. The idea of a potential remake by FOX in 2007 was met with anger €“ not just the fans but the creators and cast of the original. Director Edgar Wright and writer/actors Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes were at no point consulted or included in the plans to remake the show and alarmed by the potential direction of the new series. The feeling was so strong that Simon Pegg issued a statement bemoaning the cynicism and lack of good intention he believed the project was built on:
"My main problem with the notion of a Spaced remake is the sheer lack of respect that Granada/Wonderland/Warner Bros. have displayed in respectively selling out and appropriating our ideas without even letting us know... A decision I can only presume was made as a way of avoiding having to give us any money, whilst at the same time using mine and Edgar's name in their press release."
Their concerns were well placed. Who did the wise American executives prefer to oversee the series instead of the original creators? McG of course. That's right, the most stupidly named director in the history of cinema was selected ahead of Edgar Wright. Consequently the reboot, dubbed 'McSpaced' by Wright, was fast becoming one of the most farcical attempts to remake a series in history. A huge sigh of relief could be heard across fandom as the news broke that the pilot was not being picked up.
