With the critical success of House of Cards and just about every major TV/movie streaming site jumping on the bandwagon, more online only shows are a guarantee for 2014. Netflix is obviously in the best position to profit off this; people actually know that they have original shows and a wide subscriber base that might watch them. While Hulu does have its own original shows, they don't seem to be much of anything noteworthy, but that could always change. Amazon is also producing their own series, although they're mostly comedies at this point. Probably the most interesting online original shows are the Quantum Break and Halo TV series. Not a lot of details exist about these shows, but they will almost certainly be on Xbox Live in some way. Whether or not that means they premiere there or something else remains to be seen, but what's most important is that these shows will be fairly high budget genre programming. Most of the shows produced by Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon have fallen strictly in the drama or comedy categories. Scifi might be able to find a safer, more stable medium for the genre, but even if it doesn't, the extra competition might help spur some creativity in the TV landscape.
