12 Moments That Have Defined The Last Decade Of Doctor Who
4. Flying Earth Home (Journey's End)
The Doctor and his best friends, together in the TARDIS, flying planet Earth back home. What more could you possibly want (OK, maybe a yacht!) The climax to Series 4, Journey's End, was the finale to end all finales and it also marked the end of an almighty era, too, as it was the last 'proper' finale to be written by Russell T Davies and one of David Tennant's final episodes in his role as the tenth incarnation of the universe's coveted defender. And it really pulls at your heartstrings, doesn't it? There's just something about seeing all of the Doctor's companions working together that really makes it hit home just how spectacular Russell T Davies' era had been. Even now, 7 years later, you can't help but watch this scene with a sense of pride and nostalgia. Murray Gold's music helps, too (as it often does!), but it really just boils down to the fact that this scene epitomises what Doctor Who is all about. Here is the Doctor, surrounded by all of his friends (at least, his most recent ones), and this is is what they can do. An almighty force to be reckoned with and the image of the TARDIS above Earth is one that will stand the test of time.
