12 Most Heartbreaking Moments In Star Trek

3. T'Pol And Trip Share Their Grief - Enterprise 'Terra Prime'

Throughout Enterprise's run, two of the most popular characters had always been Trip and T'Pol, despite their seeming polar differences. She was the cool logician whereas he was the wise-cracking southern engineer. They often met at loggerheads, unable to see the other's point of view. So, somewhat naturally, they warm toward each other and they grow close, developing real feelings for each other, despite her attempts to resist.

In what many consider the true ending to Enterprise, the pair of them share in the worst trauma imaginable. The loss of their child is as stunning as it is painful, for the baby was the result of an attempt by xenophobic elements of humanity to rid the solar system of non-terrans.

It serves as one of the worst events in Enterprise's entire run - these two characters are broken-hearted by the death of their baby, a child unable to live for long due to the genetic engineering she was subjected to. Elisabeth, as she is named for Trip's sister who was lost in the Xindi attack, passes away and bring the episode and the series to a sad ending, though the actions of those who brought her life have two, unanticipated outcomes.

In a grand scale, the birth of Federation rises from the extremists' attempts to crush it. On a smaller scale, the closing moment of T'Pol and Tucker holding hands brought us all closer to the characters than ever before.
