12 Most Underrated Fantasy TV Series Ever
3. Outlander
Who doesn’t like a displaced in time story? After all it allows for those intriguing modern people in ancient settings or vice versa scenarios. Outlander was no different.
We begin with Claire Randall, a former World War II nurse who just wants to enjoy a nice holiday with her husband Frank. Unfortunately, the trip ends up taking her further than she had planned. She is transported over 200 years in the past, right into the middle of the Jacobite Risings.
Claire encounters a group of Scottish Highlanders, who themselves were being hounded by the British led by Frank’s ancestor, Black Jack Randall. Realizing she must resort to desperate means if she wants to survive, Claire marries one of the Highlanders named Jamie.
Although the marriage was born out of need, the two eventually start developing feelings for one another. However love alone cannot save them as the ruthless Black Jack will not rest until he has them in his clutches. The show has this constantly escalating sense of tension and brutality that keeps the watcher glued.
The story spans across three seasons, during which see Jamie being captured, more time travel involving Claire’s other family and an ending that somehow manages to tie up the narrative in a way that both satisfies the viewer while leaving further room to explore in the future, should the chance come.
