12 Sci-Fi TV Shows Let Down By Terrible Endings

8. The X-Files

X Files Pilot
FOX

Yeah, we’re going there—okay, so admittedly half the X-Files sizeable fanbase were happy enough with the divisive ending of the original series. But it’s hard to deny that, after almost a decade following the attempts of Agents Mulder and Scully to uncover the alien conspiracy which constantly eludes them, it wasn’t unfair for fans to expect that the series finale might be a bit more than just an ad for the then-upcoming theatrical film follow-up.

However, even with the inevitable cross-promotion taken into account, it’s hard to feel sympathy for creator Chris Carter, as the eventual release of the X-Files second theatrical offering brought with it few answers for the show’s long-running mysteries, as 2008’s belated sequel The X-Files: I Want to Believe was a bloated monster of the week episode with no relation to the central conspiracy at all.

So that’s what, two official endings, and none were the satisfactory answer viewers sought out?

If anyone bothered to watch the 2016 revival, feel free to tell us what new brand of non-answer that incarnation offered at its close.
