12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Bojack Horseman

11. Mike & Spike

Bojack Mike and Spike
Netflix

One of the best parts of BoJack’s world building is how seamlessly the anthropomorphic nature of their reality is layered in without it seeming weird, forced or sexual.

The show has occasionally addressed this too. Whether it be Chicken 4 Dayz or the cow waitress annoyed at the customer ordering steak, food in the BoJack universe has been addressed. When Butterscotch has an affair with his (human) maid, the fact their baby is set to be a horse even seems natural.

There’s plenty of animal centric background gags in the show, and we’ll get to them in a bit. This one is just good old fashioned silly humour.

In the same diner as the disgruntled cow waitress, there’s a poster for a missing dog, who answers to Spike, plus contact details for a human named Mike. It would be pretty easy not to give it a second thought, but once you do, it does feel strange to see a missing dog poster in a universe where dogs have jobs.

Later on though, we see a very similar poster, only this one is looking for a lost human, who answers to Mike, and asks people to contact Spike.
