12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Breaking Bad

Honorable Mention: Walt Taking On Habits Of The People He's Killed

Breaking Bad
AMC

This one is included as an honorable mention purely because it's become one of the most widespread observations since Breaking Bad ended, but it's too good to miss off the list, and far deeper than you might realise.

It's no secret that Walt takes on some of the behaviours and mannerisms of the people he kills, which is drawn attention to in Season 3 once he starts cutting the crusts off his sandwiches, something Crazy-8 did before his death.

Likewise, Mr. White takes on some of Gus' habits before he kills him, and then doubles down on them afterwards. His demeanour in the car wash mimics Gus' business-like attitude when he's hiding in plain sight in Los Pollos Hermanos, while Walt even mimics his former boss' preference for folding a towel to kneel on before throwing up.

It extends even further than that though, as Walt drives a Volvo after being disappeared in Season 5, which is the same make of car Gus owned. It could just be a happy coincidence, but considering how strangely prominent Gus' car is in Season 4 - most obviously when it's bugged by Hank and when Walt straps a bomb to it - it's likely intentional comparison on the filmmakers' part.

A subtler transformation happens after killing Mike as well: previously having enjoyed his liquor neat, he then drinks it on the rocks, the same way Mike liked it.
