12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Gilmore Girls
4. Luke's Hardware Store
We found out during the series that Luke acquired his diner from his father, after purchasing the land for a hardware store from him. There are little hints here and there of its origins before it was a diner, which can be found from as far back as the pilot.
In the first episode, Gilmore Girls was filmed in Unionville, Ontario. The exterior of his diner reads “Williams Hardware”, which at the time was a real store. Within the interiors, there is a completely different layout which is smaller and has more supplies on display. Once the series got picked up, The WB changed filming locations and we were given a whole new different setting, but Williams Hardware was kept.
The hardware origins became a part of the diner’s image as many old paints cans, tools and antique items can seen on display as part of the décor.
