12 Star Trek Characters Who Changed The Most

6. Picard

Seven of Nine Jeri Ryan

To date, Picard is the only character to get their own sequel series. As such, the character's growth has been expanded on more deeply than the majority of the others.

He arrives in the franchise as a strict disciplinarian, one with a high regard for rules and regulations. The crew around him are largely responsible for much of his warming, not least in fact is Wesley Crusher, the much maligned acting ensign.

Going into the later seasons, he gets deeper and more open, while still managing to keep a professional distance from his crew. By the time that the Enterprise encounters the anomaly in the Devron System, they are a true family, caring deeply for each other. He is thoroughly tested with his encounter with the Borg and the Borg Queen after the trip back to Earth.

This is one of the hardest depictions of Picard. He is a severely damaged man, traumatized beyond belief. This is at odds with the stalwart and upstanding captain of the series, so while there are some fantastic moments in First Contact, it is a little difficult to watch this side of him.

Going forward into Star Trek Picard, he is now more reckless and his bitterness toward Starfleet has coloured the way he sees the universe. He is able to beat the odds though once again, positioning himself and his new crew for a slightly more hopeful future going into the second season. Not to mention that little physical change he made in the last episode....
