12 Stupidest Decisions By Star Trek Characters

5. Saru Ships Burnham

Oh, Burnham, Burnham, Burnham. The choices for a really stupid decision are something of a lottery when it comes to this one but it's not necessarily her fault

No, for this one let's turn to season 3's Scavengers. For two seasons Burnham has been trying to stay in the good books aboard the Discovery, especially with Saru. Constantly proving that she can be trusted, Burnham elevated to the position of First Officer on Discovery, things are looking like they've taken an upward turn.

But this is another classic. Firstly, Burnham telegraphs to Saru just as she gets back to Discovery that she's not completely at ease with the role of First Officer or her place in the 32nd Century after the Red Angel incident and being out of the loop for a year. Let's repeat that; she tells Saru it isn't a good idea because she doesn't trust herself.

Saru of course dismisses the concept with a few positive words and installs Burnham as his XO. Just 3 episodes later she borrows Book's ship and without so much as a "see you later", she's off on a rescue mission accompanied by the former Emperor of the Terran Empire.

A fine example to set for the crew and rightly Saru is chewed out by Admiral Vance for his steadfastness on his choice of Number One.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
