12 Terrible TV Shows That Should Definitely Be Cancelled In 2014

2. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Hear me out, S.H.I.E.L.D. aficionados. It's up for a second season, but if this show makes it through 2014 without some serious retooling it will be a miracle, especially since Marvel has a number of other projects in the works. Even Buffy had a weak first season, but S.H.I.E.L.D. is showing so little promise of improvement that cancellation would be an effective way of wiping the slate clean for future Marvel TV series. Like The Tomorrow People, S.H.I.E.L.D. is struggling with a set of bland characters when the whole point of its role in the expanded universe is to allow it to take advantage of the hundreds of ready-made and interesting ones in the comics. Skye in particular suffers from the special snowflake curse of the protagonist and is wholly unsympathetic (to the point that €“ spoilers for non-US viewers €“ her shooting in a recent episode was kind of cathartic), and Agent Ward is a meathead whose personality is still a mystery. Coulson's death and resurrection could have been worked into an upcoming film without dragging it out over months of television which requires sitting through cliché after cliché. Formulaic writing is expected from a freshman show still finding its tone, but S.H.I.E.L.D. had it made and has failed to capitalise on it. There are only so many excuses you can make.

Grace Murray hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
