12 Things Agents Of SHIELD Needs To Fix For Season 2
2. Come Out All Guns Blazing
By JJ Abrams' standards, the series opener was somewhat tame. There were a couple of minor explosions and a climactic stand-off between the newly-formed team and a power-crazy Mike Peterson, but other than that Joss Whedon was mostly just introducing the leads and setting up pieces for later use in the season. After that the show attempted a series of (mostly) standalone episodes that didn't require all that much knowledge of continuity or attention span from the audience, and as a result there was almost no momentum for the show until it picked up in bursts later on in the season. This resulted in great ratings for the pilot but a complete drop-off almost immediately after, because the audience had so little to hang onto. This time around, the producers have a much better chance of not making that same mistake because they don't have to explain so damn much to the audience. They should have also learned that AoS is far, far better when the characters have a constant mission that affects them all on a personal level (and when Clark Gregg gets to yell at people), so if they come out of the gate with three or four episodes dealing with a serious threat and putting the leads through the wringer they should have a much better chance at keeping our attention, only slowing down when the audience is truly invested in the story and characters once more.
