12 Things Agents Of SHIELD Needs To Fix For Season 2

11. Stronger Connection To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

"New York." "Bruce Banner." "Chitauri." "Stark." These are all phrases that have been casually (well, at least as casual as an iron boot on a glass floor) dropped into dialogue in episodes of AoS by pretty much every recurring character to help us remember that all of this is occurring in the same world as Iron Man, The Winter Soldier and The Avengers - and, I suppose, The Incredible Hulk, but Marvel probably isn't that keen on reminding us of Ed Norton when Mark Ruffalo's next door. Despite being consistently clunky with their namedropping, the mentions do certainly serve their purpose, but merely reminding an audience that there's a Hulk somewhere around here just isn't the same as seeing the real thing, and feels very much like a tease with no real prospect of a payoff. To put it simply: Agents of SHIELD needs more payoff, or else everyone will see that it's just blowing smoke while D-list villains populate the show's rogues' gallery. Have an story deal with Tony Stark's company and the weapons he used to produce. Get a consultation from Bruce Banner, or Erik Selvig. The latter was once on SHIELD's payroll, wasn't he? And for the love of God, let Nick Fury and Maria Hill make more than a couple of appearances a season. (Now that How I Met Your Mother is over, that shouldn't be too much of a problem for Cobie Smulders.) They would add to the legitimacy that Clark Gregg brings to proceedings tenfold, and would let an audience feel like maybe what's going on in the show matters in the wider scheme of things.
