It is an indisputable, irrefutable fact, that without Herb Kazzaz, BoJack Horseman would never have become the star he ultimately came to be. Herb didn't have to give him tips when his stand up routine fell flat, and he certainly didn't have to cast him as the lead in Horsin' Around.

Yet still, he did. Herb was the reason BoJack became a true star. Without the help of his best friend, the star of Horsin' Around would likely have struggled to get above the local stand up circuit. However, when Herb Kazzaz was caught in a compromising position, BoJack let him down in a big way.

Even though Herb did absolutely nothing wrong, BoJack was given the choice of standing with his friend who helped him achieve his fame and fortune, or stabbing him in the back to protect his own fame and fortune. Of course, BoJack chose the selfish option, and made the decision to protect himself at the cost of his friend.

As a consequence, Herb was fired from Horsin' Around thanks to a lack of support from BoJack. This wouldn't have been so bad, since the creator of the show went on to have a successful career in the industry, but BoJack then decided to completely cut his friend out of life. He never even tried to contact him over the next 20 years, until the very start of the series.
