12 Most Touching Moments On The Simpsons

10. Grandpa Spending Bea's Money On The Senior's Home Residents

Episode: Season 2 - "Old Money" Grandpa Simpson is probably one of the most under-appreciated characters on The Simpsons. He steals every scene he's in. He's integral to the "history" of the show. He's just downright funny. And occasionally, he has a touching moment. For a character of his age and in his position, the show wisely tends to keep it light, but in dealing with the death of Grandpa's short-term girlfriend Bea in "Old Money" in the second season, the writers went a different route, and opted for a more touching story. In short: Beatrice Simmons was a retirement home fling for Grandpa, and she passed away on her birthday - a birthday which Homer caused old Abe to miss. He's unable to forgive his son, but soon finds Bea has left him a large sum on money - over $100,000 dollars. After the money makes him unhappy, the ghost of Bea appears and suggests that he spend it on others. However, so many people want in on the cash that he just can't see a way to help them all, and instead heads to Vegas to double his money. At the last minute, Homer stops him from betting it all, preventing him from losing the fortune, and allowing Abe to forgive his son. That's probably touching enough, but the episode ends with Grandpa deciding to spend the money improving his retirement home, for the benefit of the other residents - and opening a dining room named after Bea. And that's where the episode gets you.
