12 TV Comedies You Need To Be Watching
1. Veep
Veep is a brilliant show that's absolutely crammed with jokes. The funniest show on TV.
Following the trials and tribulations of Vice President Selina Meyer and her staff, this series has such a fast paced wit that it's rare to go more than 30 seconds without laughing. With Parks and Recreation off the air, Veep is a great successor to that style of comedy, although it's definitely far darker. Selina is no Leslie Knope, and it's often made clear that her and her staff are kind of terrible, selfish people.
But they're just so fun to be around, and this is one of the greatest casts on TV, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons and Matt Walsh playing off each other so incredibly well. Unlike other shows with political humor like The West Wing and Parks and Recreation, because Veep is on HBO, it never has to hold back with language, putting together some of the most brilliant insults and most creative uses of profanity out there.
It's like an evil Parks and Recreation, about bad, selfish people insulting each other week after week. It might make you depressed about the state of government and politics, but the show is so good that you'll find yourself laughing hysterically through the pain.
