12 TV Moments Made Unintentionally Depressing By Real Life Events
1. Mork And Mindy: Robin Williams Consoles A Suicidal Man
After the death of Robin Williams, a lot of his old movies and TV appearances took on a sad new light, but none of them holds a candle to this horrible scene from Mork And Mindy.
In the Season 2 episode Clerical Error, Mork pretends to be a priest, leading to a series of typical Williams gags occur. He makes puns about the word pew, is baffled by a confession, and doesn't know how to respond to "bless you." Moments later, things take a dark turn when a man walks in asking Mork for last rites because he's planning to commit suicide.
Oh, Jesus.
Mork is confused, telling the man, "Don't you realize that living is a precious thing? It's the meat in the sandwich of life!" The man just wants Mork to talk him out of it and is baffled when he doesn't, so Mork then offers him a bunch of suggestions for how he can kill himself in hilarious ways.
Given what later happened in Williams' own life, this is a particularly difficult exchange to watch now.
