12 TV Shows That Just Got Cancelled

6. Hoops

Black Lightning
Netflix

Of all the cancellations on this list, Hoops is one that does not really come as a surprise. The mature animated sitcom was not well-received upon its release (and that's really saying something considering it had the always-funny Jake Johnson in the main voice role). It was branded 'crude' and 'aimless' by critics, with some going as far as to say that it completely lacked any kind of depth.

The short-lived series debuted on the streaming service back in August and centred on a perpetually angry and immature high school basketball coach who, after years of questionable behaviour, finds himself on thin ice with his superiors. In an attempt to finally turn his life around, he vows to make them see his true value by bettering his notoriously bad team.

It's easy to blame Hoops' demise on Netflix's cancellation spree but the truth is that it just wasn't a popular addition to its line-up, so its abrupt conclusion was pretty much inevitable. Johnson did everything he could with it, but the substance just wasn't there.
