9. Battlestar Galactica And Firefly

Westworld Game Of Thrones
Sci-Fi/Fox

The firefly-class ship Serenity was a significant part of the beloved cult classic Firefly. The ship was popular enough to have made cameos in a plethora of hit properties, such as Ready Player One and Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. However one of the clearest and most defined appearances outside the series has to be this quick sequence in the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries.

In this scene, viewers were treated to some tragic news, as Laura Roslin was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, alongside this came an excellent hidden detail, as eagle-eyed fans noticed a very familiar-looking ship flying past the hospital window. Viewers quickly identified the vessel as the transport ship captained by Malcolm Reynolds.

This little reference was inserted by VFX artist Jarrod Davis, at the behest of the head CG supervisor Lee Stringer, who were both fans of the classic Sci-Fi show. It even caught the attention of Firefly's creator Joss Whedon, who reportedly loved it.
