Disney shocked the world at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con when the company announced a new 12-episode series for Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the series' 10th anniversary. The series was running strong from 2008 to 2013, but when Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the media giant killed the series, and fans were not happy.

After the announcement, the happiness returned, and the new episodes are set to premiere on Disney+, probably in 2020, but a set date has yet to be revealed. The new episodes will function as a continuation of the original series, making it serve as the seventh season.

The new episodes are expected to include the Siege of Mandalore and will feature the return of Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor, Dee Bradley Baker, and Tom Kane. Several scripts were already written when the show was canceled, so this truly will be a seventh season. Supervising director, Dave Foloni has spoken a little about the project:

"Without getting too much into detail - because I love the fan speculation - but it would be a real shame to have done all this work and not use it. So we are looking at everything and going over all those scripts we had. I think that the biggest thing for me is, 'how do we make this show better?' And I think that means examining all the work we had done, the work we were planning on doing, and also trying to honor the work of so many people that were in the middle of making stuff."
