Adult Swim

The Boondocks is an adult animated sitcom from Adult Swim, based on the comic strip of the same name. The series first aired in November 2005, and ran for four seasons until the show came to an end in 2010. In June 2019, it was announced that Sony Pictures Animation was producing a revival.

By September 2019, the series had been picked up by HBO Max with a full two-season order. Each season will be comprised of 12 episodes, and it will likely launch its first season when HBO Max goes live in the Spring of 2020, though it may not appear on the streaming service until the Fall.

The new show will be a continuation of the original series, and it will focus on Robert "Granddad" Freeman, and his two grandsons, Huey and Riley. Originally, John Witherspoon was attached to reprise the role of Granddad, but he sadly passed in October 2019.

It's unclear as to who will take over voicing that role, but Aaron McGruder will return as showrunner and executive producer. He will be joined by Norm Aladjem, Seung Kim, and Meghann Collins Robertson. In addition to the two-season order totaling 24 episodes, the series will kick off with a 50-minute special.
