12 Worst TV Shows Of 2017 (So Far)
3. Star
Even with the pedigree of Oscar-nominated director and Empire creator Lee Daniels, Star requires an extremely strong viewer tolerance for melodrama, not to mention a lack of desire for full-bodied characters.
Jude Demorest's depressingly underwritten protagonist feels like a major missed opportunity in a show that could've been a riveting examination of race and feminism amid the music industry, and it doesn't help that the trio of central performances themselves aren't up to much.
If you can soak up the soap opera then there's a guilty pleasure appeal here, but otherwise, Star is so frothy and piecemeal that it's virtually impossible to recommend. It did get a second season, though.
