13 CW Actors Who Deserve An Emmy Nomination
3. Melissa Benoist - Supergirl
Another one of The CW's emotional powerhouses, Melissa Benoist has charmed her way into viewers' hearts over the past four years as the Girl of Steel herself.
Though appropriately triumphant and completely believable in the heroic role, her greatest strength lies in her unapologetically human portrayal of the woman behind the cape, Kara Danvers, as she never fails to make this invincible super-powered alien grounded and relatable.
With the fourth season placing extra emphasis on the duality of Kara's life, Benoist had a lot of great material to work with throughout the course of the year, but the best of it always came when it directly involved her character's relationship with her sister.
This was never clearer than it was during the tenth episode of the season, 'Suspicious Minds', as the panic, anguish and heartbreak at the mere thought of having that relationship stripped away from her was written all over her face.
It was a genuinely moving example of how much family means to Kara and, as a result, it exemplified how naturally in tune Benoist was with her character. The same could also be said for her performance in the season's penultimate episode (when Kara finally broke down and realised just how much she needed Alex to remember).
No doubt, these were both excellent crisis-scenes at which point the protagonist realised there was no turning back and, thanks to Benoist's authentic performance, we truly understood that too.
