The Horrible Life Lesson: Act selfishly and everything will work out perfectly.

Slice Of Life, the 100th episode of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, acts largely as a tribute to bronies and pegasisters. Pushing the Mane Six out of the spotlight for a moment, Slice Of Life instead centers on adult fans' favorite background ponies. It also inadvertently casts Adam Smith as the true Princess of Friendship, as the episode's conclusion would be impossible without a little push from the invisible hand.

It all starts with Derpy using cheap labor to print Cranky and Matilda's wedding invitations, leading the wedding to fall on the wrong date. Doctor Hooves ignores Derpy's pleas for help, instead focusing his energy on getting his suit tailored. Left to her own devices, Derpy steals Doc's flameless fireworks to use in lieu of flowers. Not only does this improve the ceremony, it also leads to Doc learning how to make the fireworks ignite. Their selfishness winds up benefitting them both, while providing those in attendance with an awesome light show.

Speaking of those in attendance, most of them only arrive as a result of selfishness on the part of the wedding's musicians. Octavia Melody and DJ Pon-3 run late so they can fool around and have a jam session. As they rush to the town hall in a mobile DJ booth, they accidentally pick up other wedding attendees (including the bride) on the way.

Finally, best friends Lyra and Bon Bon find their friendship threatened when a bugbear attack reveals Bon Bon's secret identity as Special Agent Sweetie Drops. Lyra only forgives her friend after revealing that she selfishly ate Bon Bon's special imported oats.

After all of this, Mayor Mare gives a speech declaring everypony the star of their own story. A fitting moral, since it's only through narcissism and self-centeredness that anypony in Slice Of Life manages to help anypony else.
