Luckily for us British horror fans, Penny Dreadful is confirmed to be airing on Sky Atlantic shortly after its run in the US, because this series looks simultaneously well-crafted and absolutely nuts. It's set in Victorian London (1891 to be exact) and features the biggest names of Gothic literature, including Frankenstein's monster, Dorian Gray and Dracula. To be honest, that synopsis alone conjures a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibe which can't be ignored, but just wait until you hear who's behind this televised fan-fiction. The cast? Eva Green, Billie Piper, Timothy Dalton, Rory Kinnear and Josh Hartnett. The creators? Skyfall's John Logan and Sam Mendes. With names like these both behind the camera and in front of it, Penny Dreadful could be a genuinely terrifying version of American Horror Story, and the teaser's creepy visuals are further proof that this will be one to watch in 2014.
