13 Most Shocking Breaking Bad Moments
1. The Torture Of Jesse Pinkman
Without question the most uncomfortable and heart-wrenching the show has ever been, Jesse Pinkman's arc in the final season is nothing short of masterful and devastating. After the deaths of Hank and Gomez, Jesse is kidnapped by Jack Welker and his gang, tortured and forced to make meth for them.
And Walt tells him he watched Jane die before he's taken, kicking him whilst he's down.
Every scene of Jesse in despair is Breaking Bad at its most harsh, bleak and soul crushing, reminding you just how innocent the young drug dealer is in the grand scheme of things. He's beaten, confined to a cell, and, in a seriously horrible act of mental torture, Todd kills Jesse's former beau Andrea whilst he is forced to watch.
Aaron Paul sells every shocking moment of Jesse's anguish, and even watching him finally be set free by Walt in the series finale isn't enough to make you feel comfortable. You know Jesse can never return to the way he once was, and that the torture he endured was something he will never be able to forget.
Thankfully, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie manages to tie up Jesse's story with a more satisfactory end, and a sense that he may be okay in time.
Still, his torture is as shocking as the show ever dared go, and though harsh and uncomfortable it really is perfect TV, and Breaking Bad at the height of its powers.
