13 Reasons Why: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best

The show's latest - and final - season was a collection of both its highs and lows all rolled into one. While that might sound like a pretty neat way of paying tribute to its run, it did make for something of a problematic season.

Though it was still in a different league than the second season, it struggled to get off the ground at the beginning because of Clay's broody, nihilistic outlook on just about everything. Yes, it felt very in-character given all he had been through, but it did drag the first couple of episodes down. Furthermore, characters started behaving out of character just to force conflict and literally nobody opted for the logical solutions to any of their problems.

All of this ultimately made it very hard for the show to find its footing in its final offering. When it did, however, things significantly picked up. While the narrative itself (in which Winston and Diego attempted to uncover the truth about Bryce Walker's death) remained problematic for most of the 10-episode season, it did allow us to get to know our characters a little better as people.

Alex's acceptance of sexuality (and his subsequent relationship with Charlie) was one of the most rewarding storylines the show has ever tackled, while Justin's attempts to overcome his addiction made us root for the character even more. And, in spite of the shortcomings, the slightly more optimisitic tone it adopted towards the conclusion of the season allowed us to finally appreciate these characters for the young people that they were. And you know what? It was just so nice to see them get to be teenagers for once.
