13 Reasons Why: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best

2. Season 3

13 Reasons Why
Netflix

After realising that diluting the original narrative to within an inch of its life in the second season just didn't work, the creative team made a bold move to reinvent the show altogether in order to continue it.

The murder of Bryce Walker did just that, as the third season revolved around the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death and explored his relationship with each and every character in the lead-up to it. It highlighted how many people he had hurt and even tried to make him atone for his sins (though that understandably didn't go down too well).

In a way, the show became a less-campy iteration of Riverdale, as Clay and the crew were tasked with finding out who really killed Bryce, all while doubting each other's testimonies.

So yeah, at this point, the original 13 Reasons Why was beyond recognition... but if you can get over that, you have a pretty compelling whodunit on your hands where literally everyone has a motive. Oh it was convoluted, far-fetched and completely over-the-top, but if the show had to continue, it's better it did so this way than destroying the original story by refusing to let go of it.
