Lana suffered psychological and physical torture from Dr Thredson and even though he saw her as a maternal figure, he raped her. This horrific invasion of her body resulted in her pregnancy, and Oliver, who was desperate for some type of family believed that the act of abortion was more despicable than any murder that he had committed. The fact that he regards Lana as being more evil than he is is a big WTF moment of this series. Lana, who received no sympathy from any of the nuns at Briarcliff, despite not having consented to Thredson, took matters into her own hands. Lana performs her own abortion with nothing but a coat hanger in a desperate attempt to get rid of the life that was growing inside of her, unwanted and unloved. The scene is as horrific as it sounds and although the show brings up the difficulties that women in this position have to face, it does so in brutal and extreme circumstances. This was a truly squeamish moment from Asylum and definitely one of the darker storylines.
