14 Historical Inaccuracies In The West Wing You Totally Missed

1. Electoral Worries - Josh Thinks Rain In Oregon Will Affect Voter Turnout But All Ballots In That State Are Done By Post

West Wing Josh Lyman Gif In "Election Night" (Season 4, Episode 7), the Bartlet Administration are nervously awaiting the results of the Presidential Election and the news as to whether or not they will be serving a second term in office. Deputy Chief-of-Staff Josh Lyman appears worried during the episode after declaring that "it's raining in Oregon", something be believes will affect voter turnout. Yet, in November 1998, Oregon became the first US state to pass a law - via "Ballot Measure 60" - that all its citizens exclusively voted by mail. This means that rain in Oregon would not have affected voter turnout at all, because all ballots would have already been posted back in by election day - something electoral guru Josh would certainly have known.
