14 Historical Inaccuracies In The West Wing You Totally Missed

2. King of Sweden - He Is Regularly Incorrectly Referred To As "King Gustaf" When His Name Is "King Carl Gustaf"

Another inaccuracy which permeates throughout a large portion of The West Wing is any reference to the King of Sweden. The King of Sweden since September 1973 has been Carl XVI Gustaf, and that is the name by which he should be referred. However, throughout The West Wing many senior White House officials refer to him as "King Gustaf". This is an incorrect reference, and he should either be spoken of as "King Carl Gustaf" or even "King Carl", but certainly not "King Gustaf". President Bartlet has even met the King of Sweden in person, revealing in one episode that he spoke to him about his daughter Ellie's mathematical capabilities, meaning he would know how he should refer to King Carl Gustaf.
