When a series you've been watching for a long time comes to an end, it almost feels akin to a break-up. You feel a little empty, a part of your routine is broken and - depending on how it ended - the time you spent on it can feel warped. Still, the best cure for such a scenario is a solid rebound, and for anime, that's Akame Ga Kill.

Akame Ga Kill follows a countryside boy who ventures to The Capital on a mission to raise money for his village and achieve fame. However, his world soon changes as he becomes entwined with a group of assassins called The Night Raid, who are hell-bent on bringing the empire down.

What makes this a great series is that it's pretty much bite-sized. The whole story begins and ends within 24 episodes, meaning you can breeze through it in a heartbeat. However, while it might not last long, it still packs a massive punch in the time it does have.

There are awesome action sequences, a fantastic ensemble of characters and animation that makes it feel like a kaleidoscope of colours. All in all, it's a fast-paced delight.
